Nuthatch

nuthatch The White-Breasted Nuthatch is the largest of the 4 types of Nuthatches that are found in North America. You can often spot this bird moving sideways and upside down along tree trunks and branches. The Nuthatch lives in mature woods and along woodland edges. It also prefers deciduous trees. This bird got it's name by the way it buries nuts and seeds in the tree bark and then breaks or "hatches" them open with their bills.

Tips For Mounting a Nuthatch Birdhouse

- A nuthatch birdhouse should be mounted 5 to 10 feet high.

- Face the box so the entrance hole is away from prevailing winds.

- Place this birdhouse in a mature forest, woodland edge, or near an open area.
