Black-Capped Chickadee

black-capped chickadee Black-Capped Chickadees can be quite tame and are one of the easiest birds to attract to feeders. They enjoy black oiled sunflower seed and are often seen flying back and forth from the feeder to a tree where they break the seed open. Insects are a large part of their diet and they especially like eating caterpillars. Chickadees commonly store food and insects in various places and are able to find them up to a month later.

Tips For Mounting a Chickadee Birdhouse

- A Chickadee birdhouse should be mounted 5 to 12 feet high.

- Face the box so the entrance hole is away from prevailing winds.

- Place this birdhouse in a mature forest, woodland edge, or near an open area.

- You can place some wood shavings in the birdhouse to help attract them.
